==========  [ ABOUT ] ==========

Cascade Failure is set in the dystopian future of 2007, and is about a desperate last-ditch effort to stave off the apocalypse.

Laura Roberts, cyber-witch and star of Icebound Machines and Parsinomady, returns for her latest adventure. The Septober 2006 issue of Abenteuer Heute Abend described her as one of gaming's finest lizard wizards, so you know you're in for a rollicking good time.

Once thought lost media, our finest videogame preservationators have restored the game to a playable state. Remember, though - this is from 2006! Expect some jank.

========= [ CONTROLS ] =========

The game is controlled wholly via the mouse. Left click anywhere to move Laura. Left click to advance dialogue. Left click on a verb button, then an entity in your inventory or the world, and watch as she performs the appropriate action.

You can also press keyboard buttons to advance text or make choices in dialogues.

There is a savegame feature (accessed via the 'Menu' button), although the game is quite short (around 15 minutes).

=== [ COMPATIBILITY NOTICE ] ===

The game works best in the browser, second-best on Linux, and least well on Windows (its native environment.) In case you didn't get this file from the official website, you can check here:

The version you're looking at right now uses a much newer release of the engine (https://github.com/adventuregamestudio/ags/releases/tag/v3.6.2.13) to run it. Just run the 'startgame' script and it'll do the rest.

A more authentic way to experience would be to run it through WINE. The file you want for this is `data/caf.exe` This was tested using wine-9.0 on Xubuntu 24.04.3, and I anticipate no significant problems with other versions, as AGS 2.72 is an old and known quantity.

Please, for the love of starlight, DO NOT RUN THIS GAME IN FULLSCREEN. This isn't me doing some ARG thing. Trying to run the game in fullscreen mode will almost certainly not work, and may destroy your display settings. It might actually crash your machine so hard that you have to reboot. There's a reason the default config has it windowed.
